Dove recently launched an ad campaign that makes it abundantly clear just how much most women judge themselves – especially for their looks.
They quote a global survey showing that 96% of women do not consider themselves beautiful. Dove created a video with a forensic sketch artist to undeniably demonstrate just how much women dislike their own appearance.
It’s worth watching the video whether you’re a man or a woman, as it shows how cruel we are to ourselves – we judge ourselves way more harshly than others judge us.
More importantly, the video gives a hint as to how we can develop self-love.
So what has a video about self-image got to do with self-love?
Well, judgment is the opposite of love. When we judge someone, that automatically prevents us from loving them. So when we judge ourselves, that automatically prevents us from loving ourselves.
Therefore the key to self-love is self-acceptance.
Here’s a 20-minute guided meditation you can use to increase your self-acceptance. You can even use it to create self-acceptance for any particular body feature or personality trait that you don’t like about yourself: as you follow the guided meditation, simply focus on that body feature or personality trait.
Use this guided meditation to increase your self-acceptance and so increase your self-love.
If you follow the guided meditation and find that there’s something about yourself that you just can’t stop judging, then there’s some deeper wound that will need to be healed first. You can connect with and heal that wound using the guided meditation in this article. Again for maximum impact, as you use the meditation focus on the body feature or personality trait that you don’t like about yourself.
If that still doesn’t give you the self-love you want, then you might want to use The Body-Psyche Program to re-design the very foundation of your life.
