Do you ever notice yourself feeling emotionally overwhelmed? Do you find that you are anxious, exhausted, and dragged down by inner traumas and constantly looking for a way to balance it out? Sometimes there are unconscious areas of your brain and Body-Psyche that can become disconnected and fragmented, causing you to feel displaced within yourself. You feel your emotions, but you may also feel you have no influence over them. Because of this fragmenting you can close off certain emotional connections, deny certain feelings or approaches just to have some sense of control.
Your Inner Child’s EDD (Emotional Deficit Disorder)
One way to understand this notion is to consider what many refer to as your inner child. The inner child concept relates to a part of yourself as having different needs, not unlike the needs you had as a child. Needs that are intense in a way that makes you feel as though your way of life is threatened. It is very much like energy that is, in and of itself, a whole integral system that operates separate from your conscious mind. So much so that your conscious mind experiences that energy as a different entity. It’s not uncommon nor is it necessarily damaging. It is, however, worthy of being noted because the more of this entity you hold within, the higher the likelihood of various fragmented parts you are experiencing. And this experience can often make you feel as though you have little to no control, leaving you feeling emotionally overwhelmed.
The Core Solution
So, early in life, we learn to suppress, deny, ignore, minimize, and tamp down all of those emotions and it’s a very useful and necessary adaptive strategy. However, as I described in How Emotions Get Trapped in the Body, there is a downside to this strategy. Once those emotions have been suppressed, they become closed off and we can no longer access them. In a manner of speaking they become stuck and we can’t release them in order to work on transforming them.
But there is a solution.
It begins with recognizing what our core wound is, the one piece of our core self that is missing. And then realizing that everything we need to heal it can be found within ourselves. A necessary part of the healing process is to reconnect with those old wounds in a way that helps them release and transform.
The beauty is that we have all these different programs, or parts of ourselves, which can provide resources for the areas that are missing or lacking. For example, one part of ourselves that supplies adult wisdom can actually provide the nurturing, love, safety, or whatever it is that is lacking, for another part that is still experiencing a wound from childhood.
Develop Internal Resources

Tapping into your Body-Psyche wisdom, you will feel the changes happening in the moment. During your 45 minute guided meditation you will follow 4 simple steps.

Step 1: Connect internally
- You will relax and focus as I guide you to connect with your unfulfilled needs at a deeper level
Step 2: Connect yourself with origin of your needs
- I will guide you as you connect with the origins of this need or desire that are within your body
- I will encourage you to maintain conscious mental awareness in these challenging situations
- You will connect through my guidance with a dual awareness – your adult awareness and your childhood emotion
- You will connect with the body sites where the unfulfilled needs live as I direct you to them

The Guided Meditation
This guided meditation, Develop Internal Resources, is approximately 45 minutes long. I suggest that you participate while seated in a firm chair that will allow you to sit upright with your feet on the ground. Also, I recommend you choose a time and place where you can give this your undivided attention for the entirety of the meditation.
